As many people know (at least hopefully they do), homeowners insurance doesn’t cover property damage caused by hurricanes and floods. If you live in an affected area from Hurricane Sandy, then hopefully you invested in a separate Hartford flood insurance policy to make sure you’re 100% covered.
Hartford flood insurance can be bought from one of our agents at Paradiso Insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This type of policy provides maximum coverage of $250,000 for property and $100,000 for contents. The big question remains however, is if you need coverage if you don’t live in a high flood risk zone. Here’s a startling statistic: almost 25% of all flood insurance claims come from areas with low-to-moderate flood risk. The good news is that the premiums for this type of policy start around $129 per anum. Not too bad a price for all the coverage you receive.
Tomorrow we’ll discuss the exact ins and outs of what the policy covers, so stay tuned! Make sure to call us at 860-684-5270 with any other questions you may have!
