Motorcycle Insurance Coverage With Shark Cycle

Though not, typically, as expensive as cars, motorcycles still are a large investment and should be protected by insurance, particularly when money has been borrowed in order to buy them. Below are typical coverages that apply either to the vehicle or to those operating the vehicle:

Collision coverage – This covers damage to your own vehicle that happens when your vehicle runs into another object, such as other vehicles, trees, light poles, mountains, etc.

Other Than Collision coverage – This also covers damage to your own vehicle that is due to sources such as fire, theft, hitting an animal, vandalism, earthquake, flood or hail.

Unlike liability coverage, both Collision and Other Than Collision coverages are subject to deductibles, the amount of a claim that the policy owner must pay. Deductibles are meant to eliminate an insurer having to pay for very minor losses.

Special Parts and Accessories – This coverage may be part of a cycle insurer’s basic coverage or, quite often, an optional coverage. Typically it pays for loss involving damage to custom equipment that is added to a cycle rather than what is provided by the cycle manufacturer.

Medical Payments – This coverage typically handles medical expenses for injuries to you while operating your cycle.

Roadside Assistance – This coverage is to help pay for your costs to deal with a disabled cycle, helping to pay for it to be transported to a location for repairs of to assist with the cost for any repair or service that occurs at the location of the cycle’s breakdown. However, this coverage is for labor rather than the costs of parts.Similar to auto insurance, motorcycle insurance poses many possibilities and options.  With that said, it’s always best to check in with your local insurance agent to make sure that there is proper coverage on your motorcycle.

Snowmobile Safety Tips

With old man Winter right around the corner we will soon be seeing that really cold white stuff called SNOW.  Individuals everywhere will start brushing the dust off of their snowmobiles and taking them for that long awaited spin.  Bounding over the river and through the woods with cold blasts of air whipping around you, are all part of the fun that so many people enjoy in the winter time.   Snowmobiling is fun, without a doubt but there are still many dangerous risks involved with navigating these Winter beasts through the snow.  Due to the weight and speed of a snowmobile,  collisions can cause severe injuries and damage to property. Some models and all-terrain vehicles operate at speeds that rival automobiles. Unlike autos, there is no cabin to provide any sort of structural protection; therefore the danger to snowmobile operators is far greater.

The danger of being injured while operating snowmobiles is compounded by some important factors:

  • Snowmobiles are operated over rough terrain with obstacles that are often hidden by snow.
  • They are operated in areas where the drivers are not familiar with paths or trails.
  • Novices and older operators with poorer reflexes are attracted to recreational snowmobiling and these vehicles are often used very late at night, in remote areas.
  • Those operators who combine driving with drinking alcohol experience far more danger for obvious reasons.

Naturally there are practices that may help lower the chances of being in a serious accident.  Snowmobile operators should:

  • Avoid solo snowmobiling – having another person around in case of an accident is probably the greatest safety practice.
  • Properly maintain the snowmobile to ensure safer operation
  • Dress in appropriate safety gear and clothing, including water-repellant apparel and a helmet.
  • Operate snowmobile at speeds that are appropriate for the conditions and terrain
  • Do not drink alcohol while operating a snowmobile
  • Use marked trails and don’t stray off of them
  • Carry a first aid kit, as well as other emergency equipment, especially tools, flashlights, compass, matches, etc.
  • Avoid crossing bodies of water as breaking through ice is a major peril (drowning is a primary source of snowmobile accident fatalities).

Summertime: Go Boating but Stay Safe!

The start of summer is an awesome season.  The weather is nice, the temperature is warm, and everybody is in great spirits.  However, many accidents occur in the summer months.  Quite a few of these accidents stem from boating.  Water-skiing injuries, slipping and falling, and even wounds from fishing hooks are more common than you think!  If you own a boat (lake or ocean), it is imperative that you are careful when out on the water.  Drinking and boating is NEVER a good idea and occasionally results in tragedies.  This summer, make sure you pay attention when operating your boat.  Keep an eye on passengers, and give life jackets to those who can’t swim.

If you own a boat, we highly reccomend purchasing a general liability policy.  It will keep you financially safe in case of an accident and give you some piece of mind while out on the water.  Let us give you a free quote!  Visit our website for more infomarion.

Watercraft Insurance: Peace of Mind Out on the Water

images            Spending time on the water is truly a fantastic way to enjoy a warm New England summer day.  A few mixed drinks here, a dip in the water there, jokes and laughter all around.  However, a peaceful day on the water can quickly turn into a financial nightmare.  A distracted driver can easily hit a rock, damaging the hull and engine.  The Physical Damage portion of your watercraft covers these types of accidents.  Boats spend time in a harsh environment.  Components can break easily, especially when one is not careful.  Many other things are covered under your watercraft policy.  Medical Payments cover injuries sustained from a boating accident.  Liability is probably the most important part of your boat insurance.  If you run into another boat, if you damage somebody’s dock, if a swimmer is severely injured, or even if a water-skier takes a violent fall, you are covered.  Watercraft coverage is variable: you pick how much coverage you are looking for.  Don’t let your perfect day on the water turn into a financial crisis.  For more information or a free quote, visit our website or call us at 800-660-2991!

Shark Cycle: An Example of Garage Keeper’s Insurance

Powersports are truly awesome.  Whether you are looking for an ATV to ride in the woods, a motorcycle to cruise briskly through the countryside, or a snowmobile to rocket yousem3u across a snowy field, Shark Cycle in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, is there for you.  They have the finest selection in new and used ATVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles in the area.  Their expansive showroom is packed to the ceiling with vehicles, clothing, gear, and parts.  From Suzuki GSX-R’s to Polaris Rangers, Shark Cycle has it all.

All of this stuff needs to be insured.  However, basic insurance is not enough to effectively cover Shark Cycle.  Instead of a generic business owner’s policy, Shark Cycle has an interesting policy known as “Garage Keepers Insurance”.  This policy is used to cover many different aspects of Shark Cycle’s business.  For example, let’s say that Polaris sells Shark Cycle a new ATV.  The ATV is not paid for yet, as Shark Cycle has 90 days to pay.  If this vehicle is stolen or vandalized, Shark Cycle needs to be covered.  Under the Garage Keeper’s Policy, Polaris will be paid (in full) for the price of the ATV.  While premiums may rise a bit, Shark Cycle will have to pay anything to Polaris.

useme1Another great way to showcase a Garage Keeper’s Policy is to use the make-believe example of John.  John had a fantastic GSX-R that was in need of new brakes.  While in Shark Cycle’s shop, the bike was dropped and multiple things were broken.  A mirror was shattered, some plastic cracked, and some scuffing could be seen on the metal parts.  How could this be covered?  Shark Cycle did not own the motorcycle.  However, under a Garage Keeper’s policy, John did not have to pay a dime for the repairs of his bike.  Shark Cycle received money from their insurance company to replace the parts.

stuff 047As you may expect, this policy can be quite expensive!  However, there are many ways Shark Cycle has lowered its premiums.  Business owners, take note!  Shark Cycle has recently installed many security cameras.  While these cameras were pretty expensive, Bob at Shark Cycle knew that it was a necessity.  Once Shark Cycle’s insurance company was told that Shark Cycle took the initiative to protect its inventory with some sort of theft deterrence, they lowered the business’s premiums.  Security cameras can literally pay for themselves over the course of a year or two!  This same principle applies to alarm systems and motion sensors.

usem2Shark Cycle has been a great client of the Paradiso Team for many years.  Our two businesses are just as close in friendship as they are in location.  We look forward to insuring Shark Cycle for many, many years to come.

Teen Winter Driving Tips!

Share these with your young driver!  Here’s a few tips to keep them safer on the road.

1:  Keep your headlights on, even during the day.  It helps other drivers to spot you easier.

2:  Increase your following distance.  New drivers often have a hard time judging distance.  Giving the car ahead some extra space allows more time to react and stop in case of an emergency.

3:  Travel slowly in poor weather.  Even in rain traction is drastically reduced.  Slowing for corners is especially important.

4:  Make sure your car is ready for all kinds of weather. Check your tires, anti-freeze, washer fluid, and make sure your oil is fresh. Consider purchasing snow tires for the winter months.

5:  Don’t let your gas get too low.  You don’t want to be stranded on the side of the road!  Also, fuel pumps can become strained when your tank has less fuel in it.

Accidents Happen – Prepare Yourself

While driving home the other night, I came across several police and ambulance vehicles.  As most people do, I wondered what was going on.  After about ten minutes, a police officer waved me through allowing me to get a closer look at the scene.  Motorcycle-Accident-Intersection1What I saw, though sad and frightening, is something that happens all too often.  A man on a motorcycle had crashed and his bike was squished like a tin can.  On the ground, the man lay, conscious but still.  Pieces of the bike and rider’s clothing were everywhere and a scared friend knelt at the rider’s side.  Two things I can tell you this rider and his friend were NOT thinking about at that moment: motorcycle insurance and life insurance.  Unfortunately, life is constantly throwing at us the unexpected.  Having an “it won’t happen to me” attitude will get you nowhere.  Accidents and death are not something we like to think about or prepare for, but preparing is exactly what we should do.  Think of your family; get life insurance for the unexpected times.  Think of yourself; get motorcycle insurance for the when accidents happens.  You will be happy you chose to think ahead when, like that man I saw the other night, you see what is left of your motorcycle.  Paradiso Insurance can help you prepare for the unexpected times and set you up with the insurance you and your family needs.

Motorcycles: Special Coverage

Motorcycles are a fantastic way to enjoy a nice summer day.  When winter rolls around, however, your bike may not be used for months -  until that one warm day in december where the temperature feels like spring and the sky is clear.  Unfortunately, many motorcyclists cancel their policies in the winter to save money.  This can be disastrous!  If some part breaks after sitting for long, or if you are in an accident due to the sandy roads, you would not be covered!  It is very important to keep your bike insured or opt for a specifically designed motorcycle policy that allows you to ride at a reduced frequency during the winter months.  These policies allow you fantastic coverage, even during the winter months, while still keeping your premiums low.  To find out more, visit our website or call us at 800.660.2991!

Watercraft Insurance: Keeping You Afloat

021-sailing_01Boat insurance is crucial if you own a watercraft.  When you purchase a policy, there are three main points that you must pay attention to.  Here at Paradiso Insurance, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, we make understanding insurance simple.  Firstly, you should understand Medical Payments Coverage.  This section of your policy typically helps to take care of eligible medical expenses that can be a result of an accident on the water.  The second section you should take a look at deals with Physical Coverage.  This deals with damage to your boat (including hull and topsides), motor, and trailer.  Running aground or hitting a rock can do some serous damage to your watercraft!  The last section of your policy deals with Liability.  This is the most important part of your policy.  It covers you for accidents where other people are the victims.  If you damage somebody’s dock, the price of the repairs is covered.  If you hit somebody else’s watercraft, you are covered.  With a watercraft policy, you get to choose how much coverage you want.  Whether a lot or a little, you should definitely be covered while out on the water.  For a free quote, call us at 800.660.2991 or visit our website.
