Nail That Next Job Interview

With unemployment still remaining steadily high, that probably means there’s quite a few of you out there looking for work.  Many of you probably have been working for years and haven’t been on the other end of the interview table for quite some time.  So if you find a job opening and are nervous and feel a little rusty about conducting yourself in the interview, just take a big deep breathe and relax!

The job interview can be one of the most important parts of the hiring process, so making sure you nail it can be crucial in your potential to gain that position.  If you’re feeling a little lost though, have no fear!  Below are some tips that can help you out the next time you find yourself fielding questions about your resume…

1. Pay Close Attention to Detail- make sure all of your T’s are crossed and your I’s dotted people! Make yourself stand out, and employers can’t help but notice!

2. Proofread Proofread Proofread! -There’s nothing worse than a resume or cover letter with a word or two or five misspelled.

3. As the Scouts say, Be Prepared- Learn as much as you can about the company you are applying to.  Find out how the business has been doing, how competitors are doing against them, and more specifically- what you’ll be doing if you go to work for them.

4. Be Professional- don’t have your future employer trying to contact you at an email address that is, let’s just say, not the most appropriate of names.  Simple first name/last names with maybe a graduation or birth year attached are just fine.

So hopefully these tips will help you out down the road in any interview you may find yourself in. And as for the employers out there, if you have any Hartford Business Insurance needs, Paradiso Insurance is the place to call!

Mild Winter? Cold Winter? What Will It Be?

I think it’s safe to say that this winter has been one of the weirdest in a while. Last week we were bundling up with temperatures in the single digits, but yesterday I was in a simple sweatshirt and shorts! Mother Nature- make up your mind!

Well, since we live in New England and know all too well how quickly the the weather can change, we should always be prepared for bitterly cold weather.  Here’s some tips to keep in mind why the snow is (possibly) falling:

  • Keep a disaster-preparation kit. This can include, but not limited to: rock salt, sand, and snow shovels
  • Make sure your home is winterized by insulating walls and attics.
  • Insulate pipes and allow faucets to drip a little to prevent pipes from freezing- this is everyone CT homeowners nightmare.
  • Always have a fire extinguisher on hand and make sure everyone in your house knows how to use it.
  • Be sure to know how to kill your water in case the pipes burst.
  • Make sure your roof is in tip top shape because a fallen-in roof-well that’s just the worst.

So hopefully you take this tips into account during the winter months and winterize your home.  Don’t get left out in the cold this winter!

Avoid the Chaos of a Fire with CT Insurance for Tenants

With the recent increase in house fires, we all should take this as a wake up call to make sure our homes and apartments are as fire safe as possible.  I think it’s pretty safe to say that a house fire can be one of the worst tragedies for any family to experience.  Losing priceless family heirlooms and important possessions can be devastating for anyone, however having the right CT insurance may be the positive lift you may need in your time of struggle.

Tenants, or those that don’t own their home or apartment (otherwise known as renters) have the ability to investing in a Connecticut renters’ policy with Paradiso Insurance that will cover their belongings and possessions inside their place of residence.  Since you’re a tenant and don’t own the property or structure, then you only have to worry about covering whatever is inside your home, not the home itself.

So if you’re a renter, have no fear! For there’s an insurance policy for you as well! Do everything in your power to make sure your apartment or home is fire safe. And just incase, have that insurance policy completed.  Suffering from a fire is bad enough. Don’t lose your life savings trying to rebuild your life.  Get coverage…it could be the best decision of your life.

Wow, What a Weekend in the NFL!

Was anyone surprised that Sunday’s games were anything short of spectacular? The New England faithful received their wish and defeated the Baltimore Ravens to return to yet another Super Bowl, their fifth since 2001. The New York Football Giants won a nail-biter in San Francisco as they defeated the 49ers in overtime. It’s the rematch everyone wanted…  so now’s the time for the intern’s two-cents.

Let’s start with the first game.  The Patriots and the Ravens started the game incredibly slow, however second half heroics (and failures) provided for a great show.  Baltimore, down by three and under two minutes, drove down the field on the Patriots’ less-than-stellar defense, and had an opportunity to win the game on a touchdown pass from Joe Flacco, but Baltimore wide out Lee Evans dropped an easy catch.  Looking to send the game to overtime, Baltimore sent their kicker, Bill Cundiff, out for a 31 yard field goal, but he shanked the kick as time expired and thus sent New England back to the Super Bowl.  No one can deny that Baltimore beat themselves, because the Patriots surely didn’t.

The second game lived up to the hype and easily became an instant classic.  New York held a slight 10-7 lead after half time, but with another Vernon Davis touchdown, the 49ers took a 14-10 lead.  After a mis-hap on special teams by the 49ers’ punt returner Kyle Williams, the Giants took over deep in San Francisco territory with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, leading to a Mario Manningham touchdown catch.  San Fran got the ball back and kicked a field goal to send the game to overtime, however Kyle Williams fumbled a punt return, giving the Giants possession inside the 49er 20-yard line wihich allowed Lawrence Tynes to kick a 31-yard field goal and send New York to Indianapolis for a rematch with New England for the Super Bowl.

Everyone wanted this game to happen (well maybe not Baltimore or San Francisco), and now it will.  It’s Giants-Patriots, again, for all the marbles.

Nanny 911! Why They Need CT Workers Comp Coverage!

Housekeepers can be an absolute blessing and joy to have around the house if you have kids, regardless of the age they may be.  Come on, everyone will admit that they’d love to have a nanny help out with household chores like cooking, cleaning and laundry.  Now we all may not be able to afford a nanny, but we sure do wish we all had one (or some may need two)! Well if you are one of the lucky ones and have a nanny or housekeeper, you should probably be aware that they are not covered on your home policy, so they need to invest in a CT workers comp policy.

Stranger things have occurred in a house, so you really never know if and when something could happen to either your housekeeper. Take for example:

  • Your housekeeper is doing laundry, spills some excess detergent on the floor and proceeds to slip and fall, breaking their ankle.
  • The kids are playing ball in the back yard. The nanny goes out to take in the laundry off the clothesline (assuming it’s a warm and beautiful summer day, hence the kids playing ball in the back yard). Child number one-we’ll call him Marc- hits the ball that child number two-we’ll call him Tom- pitched to him.  The ball flies through the air and collides with the housekeeper’s head just as he or she is about to take the sheets off the line, knocked out cold.
  • Say the housekeeper is vacuuming the upstairs hallway when little Sally decides it would be fun to play with her dolls right behind the vacuuming housekeeper.  Unbeknownst to the nanny of Sally’s whereabouts, the nanny backs up with the vacuum, trips over Sally and her array of dolls, and thus resulting in a sprained nanny’s wrist.

So what are we trying to get at with these outlandish scenarios? Well, what homeowners need to realize is that if the housekeeper is injured in your home, your homeowners insurance does not cover their injuries.  So then what shall they do? The answer is simple-invest in a Connecticut workers comp policy with Paradiso Insurance of course! Don’t run the risk of tripping over a Tonka Truck without a policy-call or stop by today!

Don’t Be Surprised By Today’s Internet Blackout

Today, if you go onto popular websites like Google, youtube, or wikipedia, you’ll notice a BIG difference.  These, along with a multitude of other websites are protesting the proposed Congressional legislation bill 3261. Many of the website that are joining in on the protest believe that sopa is the US government’s way of censoring the internet.  Below is a short video explaining what exactly sopa is and what it could mean if passed through Congress:

This act could have a lasting effect on anyone that uses the internet to get their message across.  With social media and blogging at the forefront of the digital marketing spectrum, your company can never be too careful.  Invest in a Hartford business insurance policy to protect your company incase something happens in your digital marketing world.

Saving on Your CT Auto Insurance Once You’re Retired

So now that you’ve had your golden handshake and are living the good life after a long and successful career, you deserve some breaks.  Whether it’s a discount at Dunkin Donuts or CT auto insurance, those that are retired can be eligible for great discounts and markdowns.

You’re life is going to experience some big changes now that you’re no longer working, so your coverage is probably going to change as well.  Below are some things to think about with regards to your ct auto insurance.

  • Has your annual mileage changed? Since you aren’t driving to and from work anymore, it’s time to analyze how much you’ll be using your cars.
  • Can you take a mature-driver course? Mature-driver courses are just like the courses that new drivers take, but place an emphasis vision changes, hearing loss, changes in reaction time or limitations in movement like turning your head.
  • Do you really need all those cars now? Simply put, you don’t need all of your vehicles anymore. If you and your spouse are retired and typically travel together, you may be able to get away with owning just one car. It may make sense to sell one car if it’s worth a substantial amount.

If you are now retired, you may be eligible for discounts on your ct auto insurance.  Contact a pro at Paradiso Insurance for any questions you may have! Why wait another minute when you could be saving! 860-684-527o.

Buy American!

If anyone is astonished about what happened to this country economically, you have been asleep for years.  The solution is singular and is very simply……“BUY AMERICAN”. Only you can turn it around by boycotting foreign made products.  If you do not, our economy will get much worse!

Join me in turning this country around economically,   RON GIDDIX

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students

that while one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn’t

slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that

thought in mind, read the following, obviously written by a

good American . . .

This probably sounds crazy, but just yesterday I was in
Wal-Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in
China for $6.99. I didn’t want to pay that much so I asked
the lady if they had any others. She took me to another
department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA.
They are just as good.

Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found
some made in the USA and they were $3.00 cheaper. We are
being brain washed that everything that comes from China
and Mexico is cheaper. Not so. That is also why I don’t buy
cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are expensive.
I buy them at Dollar Tree….50 cents each and
made in USA.

Check this out. I can verify this because I was in Lowe’s the
other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was
looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China.
The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of
it, I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in
USA. Start looking …

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or
do effects someone else – even their job.

My grandson likes Hershey’s candy. I noticed, though, that it
is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more. My
favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico … Now I have
switched to Crest. Aquafresh Advanced is made in Moon TWP,
PA.

(Another Good idea…… Change one light bulb at a time) . This
past weekend I was at Kroger’s. I needed 60W light bulbs and
Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next
to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled,
“Everyday Value.” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared
the stats they were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs
were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing
that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO
and the Everyday Value brand was made in – get ready
for this – the USA at a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you
use every day that are made right here…

So on to another aisle – Bounce Dryer Sheets… Yep, you
guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada.
The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN
THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets
performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for
years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you
shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is
made in the USA – the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your
address book so we can all start buying American, one light
bulb at a time!

Stop buying from overseas companies!
(We should have awakened a decade ago….)

Let’s get with the program and help our fellow Americans
keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the USA.

We Don’t Need A Lizard, Pig Or Caveman To Save You Money And Offer The Best CT Insurance!

There aren’t many of us who don’t recognize the cute little lizard, the screaming pig, or the caveman in the numerous commercials we all know and…well…find humorous! While we don’t have the commercial or the gecko, we as a Connecticut independent insurance agency have something much more to offer: Options.

Being an independent insurance agent allows us to shop your insurance with multiple carriers, which means aggressive rates with the proper coverage for your personal or business needs.  In addition to providing you with your insurance needs, our staff is one phone call or email away.  Like many of you, we find it frustrating to be a case # versus a person, automated messages, etc.  Here at Paradiso Insurance, our goal has always been to deliver the best service to our customers, letting them know that we are here and represent THEM!

Here are just 3 reasons why choosing an independent insurance agent is a smart idea:

  • Unbiased Opinion – An independent insurance agent has your best interest in mind and will help you when comparing insurance quotes to find the best policy at the right price for you.
  • Expert Opinion – An independent insurance agent will work along with you when choosing your policy to make sure you’re not overpaying for unnecessary coverage or underpaying for insufficient insurance coverages.
  • There To Help YOU– An independent insurance agent will help you through the difficult and confusing processes such as an accident, fire or various claims to make sure you receive what is rightfully yours at the end of the claim process.

So while we love the commercials, our commercial for Paradiso Insurance means most as we feel that people truly understand that when you choose our agency, you understand what it means when we say ” I work for YOU, my customer”.

Does Your Connecticut Homeowners Insurance Policy Have ENOUGH Personal Property Coverage?

Most insureds ask what considered personal property. The easiest way to explain this was if you were to take your home, turn it upside down and whatever falls out of the home is considered personal property.

For example:

  • bed
  • pictures
  • jewelry
  • furniture
  • clothing

In addition to understanding the items that may be included within the realm of “Personal Property” here are some steps you can take to be extra cautious if something were to happen to your personal property:

  • Make a list of what you own.  In addition, make a copy of the list and keep it away from the home in case of an emergency
  • take pictures of and/or videotape your possessions
  • keep your sales receipts
  • keep your warranty information

Make sure your understand your CT homeowners insurance policy.  If you need someone to look over or explain your policy, make sure you contact your independent insurance agent at Paradiso Insurance to go over current coverages and to make sure you are FULLY covered!

Dont hesitate to call our team at (860) 684-5270
